Pflanzen sind in ihrer natürlichen Umgebung einer Vielzahl von potentiell pathogenen Mikroorganismen aus-gesetzt. Für das Überleben der Pflanze ist daher das frühzeitige und sichere Erkennen einer Infektion durch Mikroorganismen von zentraler Bedeutung. Erfolgt die Erkennung als Pathogen, reagiert die Pflanze mit massiven Abwehrreaktionen. Gleichzeitig muß aber auch die Interaktion der Pflanze mit symbiontischen Mi-kroorganismen wie Rhizobien oder der weit verbreiteten Mykorrhiza erfolgen können. In den vergangenen Jahren konnte die Kommunikation zwischen Mikroorganismen und Pflanzen zum Teil aufgeklärt werden. In dieser Vorlesung werden die molekularen Mechanismen der Signalerzeugung und -transduktion vorgestellt. Einen weiteren Aspekt soll der Vergleich der Signaltransduktion in Pflanze und Tier bilden. Angewandte Aspekte des Pflanzenschutzes sollen diskutiert werden
