230266 Reading Class: Capitalism (S) (SoSe 2024)

This course is designed as a dynamic, interactive, reading and discussion class in which we will engage with material on capitalism (in excerpts), e.g. Vivek Chibber’s “ABC of Capitalism”, Gareth Austin’s “The Return of Capitalism as a Concept”, Nancy Fraser’s Cannibal Capitalism, Søren Mau’s Mute Compulsion. A Marxist Theory of the Economic Power of Capital and/or Erik Olin Wright's How to be an Anti-Capitalist in the 21st Century. Students are invited to suggest reading materials themselves. The seminar participants will decide about the reading programme together in the first session. Please note that this course serves as an extra-curricular activity (without ETCS).

Requirements for participation, required level

Everybody's welcome. This course is open to all students interested in reading and discussing theoretical material, regardless of the 'Fachsemester' in the B.A. or M.A. programmes.
