392141 Empathic Artificial Intelligence (Interactive/Multimodal Journal Club) (S) (SoSe 2024)

Contents, comment

This class explores how artificial intelligence is applied to understand and respond to human inner states, such as stress, boredom or emotions. On the technological front, we will explore a diverse set of approaches, including supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement methods. The seminar will also cover the concept of xAI, used to make AI decisions more accessible to humans. The methods will be contextualized by discussing applications from recognizing emotions to understanding mental health and human-machine interactions.

Each chapter of the seminar will start by giving a short introduction to the relevant concepts to ensure that the students are best equipped to understand the research articles. Credits are earned through paper presentation, written review submissions, and active participation in discussions. The seminar will provide a platform to critically discuss the technological, ethical and societal aspects of using AI through the lens of academic context.
