Lesewoche 2024
Vom 21. bis 24. Mai 2024 findet die gemeinsame Lesewoche/Reading Week unserer und der Fakultät für Erziehungswissenschaft statt.
Ziel ist es, zusätzlichen Raum für studienbezogene Aktivitäten zu bieten, die außerhalb des regulären Curriculums liegen. Nutzen Sie diese alternative Möglichkeit der Auseinandersetzung mit Studium, Lehre und Forschung, für die im normalen Studien- und Lehrbetrieb kaum Zeit bleibt.
Es werden Veranstaltungen in speziellen Formen angeboten, wie Lesegruppen oder thematisch orientierte Diskussionsrunden. Darüber hinaus wird den Studierenden eine Liste mit Literaturhinweisen zur Verfügung gestellt.
[Weiterlesen]Multidisciplinary perspectives on science and policy in the EU
The Belgian Science Policy Office (BELSPO) has invited Holger Straßheim to chair a panel at an international conference on "Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities and the future of evidence-informed policymaking“ (6-7 May 2024, Royal Museum for Central Africa, Tervuren). The conference is organized within the frame of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. BELSPO emphasizes the need for multidisciplinary approaches in policymaking beyond linear models of science-policy advice. It brings together more than 150 participants. The panel chaired by Straßheim will focus on paradigmatic examples of boundary-crossing organizations such as the Finnish Academy of Science, the Netherlands Scientific Council for Government Policy (WRR) and UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES, a transdisciplinary and cross-regional mechanism that provides humanities-driven science to member states.
Rolf Lidskog (Örebro) new visiting researcher
Rolf Lidskog, Professor in
Sociology at Örebro University in Sweden, will be the new visiting researcher
at the working group Political Sociology (Straßheim). Rolf Lidskog’s
research interests include environmental policy and politics at the
international and national levels, especially the role of expertise in
environmental governance. A central issue in this research is how actors
perceive, evaluate and manage risks, where there are conflicting views on what
is the most suitable way to manage them. To answer this question, he has
studied a variety of environmental areas: climate change, biodiversity loss,
air pollution policy, nuclear waste management and hazardous waste management.
Rolf will give a lecture at the ISOS colloquium on 23 April on 'Environmental expertise
for social transformation: meaning, roles, and expectations‘.
Official Inauguration of DFG-funded Research Training Group on "Cross-Border Labour Markets" RTG 2951
On April 8, the newly established Research Training Group "Cross-Border Labour Markets: transnational market makers, infrastructures, institutions" RTG 2951 was officially inaugurated with a Launch Event at Bielefeld University. Speaker Ursula Mense-Petermann (Professor of Economic Sociology and Sociology of Work, Bielefeld University) and Co-speaker Karen Shire (Professor of Comparative Sociology and Japanese Society, University Duisburg-Essen) welcomed the 11 Principal Investigators from Bielefeld University, University Duisburg-Essen, and University Osnabrück, as well as the group of 11 newly appointed doctoral researchers, one Postdoc, as well as two associated researchers to the Research Training Group.
The Research Training Group investigates cross-border labour markets and the transnational organizations, infrastructures, and institutions that facilitate and stabilize such labour markets extending beyond national boundaries.
The rector of Bielefeld University, Professor Angelika Epple, congratulated the international and interdisciplinary team of PIs for their success and praised their commitment and determination in this highly innovative project.
Keynotes were given by sociologist and migration scholar Ludger Pries (Ruhr University Bochum) and by labour market economist Michele Battisti (University of Glasgow), thus representing the interdisciplinary outlook of the RTG.

Am 16. April 2024 vergibt die Fakultät für Soziologie den Franz-Xaver-Kaufmannpreis 2024 an Tom Kaden. Damit ehrt die Fakultät einen aufstrebenden Wissenschaftler.
Der Franz-Xaver-Kaufmann-Preis würdigt die Leistungen von Wissenschaftlern, die innerhalb von fünf Jahren nach ihrer Promotion ein zweites, international anerkanntes wissenschaftliches Werk publiziert oder vergleichbare wissenschaftliche Leistungen in deutscher oder englischer Sprache erbracht haben.
