Das Studium vermittelt in den ersten zwei Semestern die fachliche Basis in den Bereichen Lineare Algebra und Analysis. In den folgenden Semestern werden Themenbereiche der theoretischen und angewandten Mathematik studiert, bei denen die Studierenden bereits die Möglichkeit haben, sich durch die Auswahl der Veranstaltungen individuell zu profilieren. Ebenso dienen zwei Drittel des individuellen Ergänzungsbereichs der fachlich vertiefenden Profilierung, ein Drittel kann der/die Studierende frei gestalten. Mathematik als Kernfach kann mit allen an der Universität Bielefeld angebotenen Nebenfächern kombiniert werden.Typische Nebenfächer sind Informatik, Physik oder Wirtschaftswissenschaften.
Studentische Hilfskräfte betreuen die Übungen zu den Vorlesungen, sodass kleine Übungsgruppen die Regel sind.
In der internationalen Forschungslandschaft genießt die Bielefelder Fakultät für Mathematik einen hervorragenden Ruf. Viele internationale Kooperationen und die hohe Anzahl Mathematiker*innen, die Bielefeld für einen Forschungsaufenthalt auswählen, sind hierfür ein Beleg. Length and scope of studies

The standard period of studies is 6 semesters.

The studies Major Subject (Academic) Mathematics comprise 120 credit points.

Access requirements

Access to the Bachelor programme is granted to those who have a university entrance qualification suitable for Germany (e. g. German ‘Abitur’).

Special conditions apply to applicants with a foreign certificate of education.

Likewise, special conditions apply to those qualified in vocational education and training.

Application, admission and enrolment ¹

The study places are not subject to any admission restrictions (numerus clausus). Nevertheless, you need to apply within the currently applicable application deadlines. Afterwards, however, you can submit your application for enrolment directly in the application and status portal, provided that you meet the access requirements. If you are already enrolled at Bielefeld University, you need to apply for a change of degree programme.
