Contents of the subject History

A university with a strong research programme
The degree programme is offered at a university that is internationally renowned for its strong research in history. Students benefit from innovative impulses and a theory-led education that enables them to critically scrutinise historical processes.

Diverse subject areas
The degree programme covers a wide range of epochs and systematic subject areas, including gender history, economic history and art history. This diversity enables students to develop their own areas of interest and deepen their knowledge in various fields of history.

Dedicated teaching and supervision
Teaching is characterised by close cooperation between teaching staff and students, which promotes a lively culture of discussion. From the first semester onwards, students receive intensive support in their individual study orientation and the development of subject-specific skills.

Practical study content
The degree programme integrates practical elements such as internships and a colloquium that promotes exchange with historians in relevant professional fields. This prepares students specifically for their future activities in the education sector and represents an important bridge to professional life.

International co-operations
Students have the opportunity to participate in international programmes and benefit from over thirty renowned partner universities. These collaborations enable students to study abroad and broaden their horizons by familiarising them with history from different cultural perspectives.
There are particularly good job prospects in primary schools, secondary schools, comprehensive schools, and elementary schools, as well as in integrated special education. There is also a high demand for teachers in STEM subjects (with the exception of biology). Nevertheless, it is important to keep in mind that you will be teaching this material for a long time. You should therefore be interested in what you teach and study subjects that you are passionate about.Considering the age of the students in the respective school types is also helpful when making this decision.

Access to the Bachelor programme is granted to those who have a university entrance qualification suitable for Germany (e. g. German ‘Abitur’).
