The knowledge and methods of informatics are now an integral part of modern industrialised societies and have a significant influence on the forms of other sciences we are familiar with today. For this reason, the aim of the Bachelor's Minor Subject (60 CPs) in Informatics is to give students from all fields the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the basic concepts of informatics and to acquire the ability to apply these concepts in practice and assess their consequences. In particular, students learn about the basic structure and operation of a computer in order to accept it naturally as a tool for their daily work. In addition to purely routine activities, this also includes participation in the design and development of software solutions for practical problems from the core subject. Both functional and object-orientated programming concepts, i.e. essential principles of programming, are acquired, which also enable independent familiarisation with another programming language.
In the minor subject, the emphasis can be placed on practical, technical or Cognitive Informatics by choosing modules from the profile module pool of Informatics (10 CPs): the modules available include Databases and Information Systems, Parallel and Distributed Computing, Computer Architecture and Operating Systems.
After studying the subject, graduates will be able to explain tasks in the field of informatics in such a way that they can be understood and implemented by computer scientists. Conversely, graduates are able to check the proposed solutions for their practical suitability in the field of application. Overall, students should be able to prepare and contribute to sensible decisions on the configuration of computer systems, on the planning and implementation of software projects and on the procurement and use of software.
You will find the programme of lectures for this course in the eKVV.
