Interesse an Sprache und Freude an analytischem Denken sind gute Voraussetzungen für ein Studium der Computerlinguistik. Sprachliche Kommunikation ist für uns Menschen etwas ganz Alltägliches. Wenn man allerdings versucht, Sprache und Interaktion mit Computern zu modellieren, wird schnell klar, wie komplex unser sprachliches Wissen eigentlich ist.

Das Computerlinguistikstudium vermittelt, wie sprachliche Strukturen und Prozesse der Sprachverarbeitung mit logisch-mathematischen, empirischen und technischen Mitteln untersucht werden können. Studierende der Computerlinguistik lernen verschiedene sprachwissenschaftliche, formal-theoretische und technische Zugänge zu Phänomenen der Sprache und Interaktion kennen. Sie erwerben Kenntnisse und praktische Erfahrung im Umgang mit sprachlichen Daten und mit Methoden der Analyse, Modellierung und Strukturierung dieser Daten.

In Bielefeld ist das Fach Computerlinguistik an der Fakultät für Linguistik und Literaturwissenschaft angesiedelt und sprachwissenschaftlich ausgerichtet. Fähigkeiten wie Programmieren und algorithmisches und formales Denken werden in Kursen vermittelt, die auf (computer-)linguistische Aufgabenfelder zugeschnitten sind. Für das Bachelorkernfach Computerlinguistik bieten sich deshalb insbesondere eine Reihe von Nebenfächern aus dem geisteswissenschaftlichen, aber natürlich auch aus dem informatisch-mathematischen Bereich an.

Computerlinguistische Methoden und Technologien werden heute in vielen Anwendungen benötigt. Für Absolvent*innen der Computerlinguistik eröffnen sich Berufsperspektiven in Bereichen der künstlichen Intelligenz, Datenanalyse oder Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion.

Formalities / Important information

Course start

Studies can be commenced in both winter and summer semesters. Courses are targeted to commencing studies in winter semester. Student counselling to plan the course of studies is recommended.

Length and scope of studies

The standard period of studies is 6 semesters.

The studies Major Subject (Academic) Computational Linguistics comprise 120 credit points.

Access requirements

Access to the Bachelor programme is granted to those who have a university entrance qualification suitable for Germany (e. g. German ‘Abitur’).

Special conditions apply to applicants with a foreign certificate of education.

Likewise, special conditions apply to those qualified in vocational education and training.

Application, admission and enrolment ¹

The study places are not subject to any admission restrictions (numerus clausus). Nevertheless, you need to apply within the currently applicable application deadlines. Afterwards, however, you can submit your application for enrolment directly in the application and status portal, provided that you meet the access requirements. If you are already enrolled at Bielefeld University, you need to apply for a change of degree programme.
