In the master's programme in Applied Psychology, prospective psychologists receive professional, methodological and practical training that ideally prepares them for a wide range of activities in the organisational and educational sector as well as for further academic qualification. The programme combines the application subjects of Educational Psychology and Work and Organisational Psychology in an innovative way.

What content is taught?
Students

  • acquire up-to-date knowledge in the fields of Educational Psychology, Social Psychology, Work Psychology and Organisational Psychology.
  • acquire knowledge of advanced methodological and psychometric principles of psychological diagnostics.
  • deepen their knowledge of theory, construction and application of psychological tests as well as recent developments in test theory and test construction.
  • acquire important skills through the independent planning and implementation of practice-oriented projects, of projects on issues from current research and through the evaluation, presentation and discussion of project results.
  • deepen and broaden their subject-specific and interdisciplinary skills as well as their methodological knowledge through, among other things, the planning and implementation of computer-assisted data collection, the analysis of data, survey planning and the assessment of evaluative questions.

What is the course of study?
In its conception, the study programme aims to demonstrate the value of theories, scientific findings and research methods for a professional design of practice and to make it possible to experience them in the implementation of one's own study projects.

What does the programme qualify students for?
The programme provides the basis for evidence-based psychological action in various professional fields such as school psychology, counseling centers, university didactics, personnel selection, or vocational training and continuing education.

What specialisation options are offered?
The programme offers the following three options for specialisation. Within the programme, students must select two main focuses on:

  • Educational and Pedagogical Psychology: Essential contents represent the in-depth examination of diagnostics and counseling as well as individual support in the school context.
  • Work, Organisational and Social Psychology: The focus is on the application of aptitude testing for personnel selection and development, the design of sustainable working environments in an organisational context, or topics such as robotics and gender research.
  • Training and further education: The target group-oriented planning, organisation and implementation of internal and external group interventions in the educational and organisational context are taught and tested.

Studies can be commenced only in winter semester.

Length and scope of studies

The standard period of studies is 4 semesters.

The studies Applied Psychology: Diagnostics, Counselling and Training comprise 120 credit points.

Access requirements

Access to the Master programme is granted to those who can provide evidence that they have a first university degree which has a standard period of study of at least six semesters, qualifies for exercising a profession and is in accordance with the subject-specific regulations.

Degrees from accredited Bachelor programmes at German ‘Berufsakademien’ are equivalent to Bachelor degrees from universities.

Applicants with a university degree obtained abroad are granted access provided that the degree they have acquired is deemed sufficient for this purpose and they can provide evidence of the required language skills.

Application, admission and enrolment  1

The study places for this degree programme are subject to local admission restrictions (numerus clausus). You need to apply within the currently applicable application deadlines.

As soon as you receive a positive response in the application and status portal (notice of access from the faculty) and receive your admission notice from the Student Office, you can submit your application for enrolment within the set deadline. If you are already enrolled at Bielefeld University, you need to apply for a change of degree programme. After the deadline expires, the study place will be allocated to someone else.
