Module 23-LIT-M-PM3 Profile module 3: Internship

The internship module serves both to provide career guidance and to consolidate and additionally acquire key qualifications such as team work, motivation, planning management, flexibility and creativity. Through their independent search for a suitable internship, students gain self-presentation skills that will help them in their later search for a job. As part of the work placement, students will apply the knowledge and skills acquired in literary studies in a practical way to contexts outside the university environment and relate them to their career-orientated further qualification.
After completing the module, students will have a solid professional orientation. In addition to practical experience, they gain further knowledge of possible professions and fields of work, which may impact the subsequent organisation of their studies and training. After completing the internship students report orally on their work experience in a colloquium, which offers them the opportunity to exchange ideas with other students and reflect on the practical transfer of skills.

The internship complements the literary competences in a practical way and with regards to career-oriented further qualification. Internships in the cultural sector (theatre, museums, archives), in the media (radio, television, newspaper) or public institutions that can benefit from the students' linguistic-literary and cultural studies skills (press office, public relations, foundations) enable students to apply their skills in practical contexts and to gain experiences in the communication and mediation of contents of their studies in literature.
Module coordinators and students decide on the suitability of a possible internship in a joint counselling interview. The implementation of the required time frame can be organised in accordance with the internship employer and the module supervisor. Upon completion the internship is documented by a certificate from the internship centre. In an oral internship report, students reflect on their experiences during the internship and integrate them in the context of the knowledge acquired during their studies, taking into account possible professional pathways.
