Students work independently on a far-reaching question relating to a current problem in literary studies. As part of their Master's thesis, they are able to present the academic results in a comprehensive text in a research-oriented manner. They are able to develop a literary research question, present it appropriately and in detail in a complex written form and summarize its essential results. The independent project development requires a high degree of self-organisation, time management and personal responsibility in the design of the work process. The written examination for the Master's thesis in this module includes participation in a literary research colloquium in which students present their project. Communication and mediation skills are also practised during the oral presentation of the project.
As part of the final module, students are supervised by an instructor in the independent conception, development and preparation of a Master's thesis.The topic of the Master's thesis is related to the research subjects of the degree program, whereby the chosen profile formation of the students during the advanced and profile phase in particular can also enable an individual thematic focus.

Justification of Necessity of two partial Module Examinations:
Students present their Master's thesis in a graded presentation in a colloquium.
Module structure: 2 bPr 1
Students present their final-year dissertation in a presentation lasting approximately 30 minutes at a colloquium.
A written Master’s thesis of approximately 70 pages. The duration of the project is 4 months.
Students demonstrate that they are able to work independently on an academic research topic from the subject area of their respective degree programme within the specified timeframe.
To this end, students contact a supervisor to discuss a possible research topic. The final topic is issued by the supervisor. The completion period begins upon this issue. At the same time, the supervisor and the student must ensure that the thesis is registered with the examination office without delay, in particular to appoint the examiners and document the examination procedure.
The thesis must be submitted in triplicate, bound in accordance with the deadline, and in digital form to the Examination Office for Linguistics and Literary Studies.
