Students gain an insight into potential career paths and, on that basis, plan their academic progress throughout their degree programme. They apply techniques for identifying their individual skills, use strategies for researching the labour market, and develop their own questions regarding professional fields. This helps to develop skills such as self-management and self-motivation, increases frustration tolerance and maintains the ability to take action, enabling students to identify their career goals during their studies and work towards them with determination.
The fields of business and science open up a wide range of potential career paths for graduates of the Bachelor’s degree programme. But how can one determine which field of work best suits one’s individual interests and abilities? And what steps are necessary to secure one’s desired career?
This lecture teaches methods for successful career planning. Students acquire the necessary skills by, amongst other things, learning how to draw up a personalised skills profile, apply research strategies to explore potential career fields, and present themselves effectively in job application contexts. In addition, professionals from the field will provide insights into their areas of work and their personal career paths. A broad spectrum of current career fields within the field of economics will be presented. The invited professionals will describe their key responsibilities and the potential challenges of day-to-day work. They will share their experiences of the transition from university to the workplace, provide information on career entry opportunities, offer tips on the application process, and be available to answer individual questions and facilitate networking.
During the seminar, students will consolidate and practise what they have learnt in relation to one of the lecture’s key thematic areas.
