Das Modul vermittelt grundlegende Kenntnisse der Morphologie und Systematik in der Regel einheimischer Insekten sowie Grundlagenwissen in zoologischer Nomenklatur, sowie insbesondere Grundzüge der speziellen Nomenklatur und Terminologie der Entomologie. Nach erfolgreicher Teilnahme sind die Studierenden in der Lage, (heimische) Insektenarten taxonomisch einzuordnen, häufige Arten anzusprechen sowie unbekannte Arten unter Zuhilfenahme einschlägiger Fachliteratur zu bestimmen.
Eine gute Kenntnis der Insektenfauna ist für viele biologische Fragen unerlässlich, auch und vor allem für ökologische und naturschutz-relevante Arbeiten - und Spezialisten sind für viele Insektengruppen äußerst rar gesät. Die Veranstaltung bietet Gelegenheit, durch die intensive Beschäftigung mit heimischen Aufsammlungen entomologische Kenntnis zu erlangen, oder auch sich detailliert in die Systematik bestimmter Insektengruppen einzuarbeiten.

Die Studienleistung wird durch die Bearbeitung der an den Kurstagen bereitgestellten Insektenpräparate sowie durch die Dokumentation der Bestimmungswege und Artmerkmale erbracht. |

Im Rahmen der letzten Veranstaltung müssen unbekannte Insektenpräparate eigenständig bestimmt werden. Zum Bestehen ist das korrekte Bestimmen wenigstens der Hälfte der Präparate bis zur angegebenen taxonomischen Ebene notwendig.
