For information on the duration of the modul, refer to the courses of study in which the module is used.
After completing the seminar, the students have knowledge in organic structural chemistry and can predict the type of bonds, geometry, and conformational flexibility of organic compounds. They are proficient in the systematic nomenclature of organic compounds and can apply it confidently. They are familiar with important functional groups, particularly concerning their representation and use in syntheses. They can assess the influence of molecular structure, substituents, and reaction conditions on the course of a reaction. The students are able to design synthetic pathways for simple compounds, recognize possibilities for side reactions, and formulate plausible reaction mechanisms. They have an overview of important classes of natural substances and their significance for living nature, and they can describe their typical reactions. The students consolidate and expand their knowledge and understanding using textbooks.
The module outlines the topics that are covered in the field of organic chemistry within the Bachelor’s program in Sustainable Chemistry. Students independently identify the areas where they need to catch up on content and acquire this knowledge using the provided literature and other materials. Opportunities for question-and-answer sessions will be made available.
