In addition to the core modules of the MSc degree programs in psychology, the elective module ‘Fields of Application of Neuropsychology’ module offers an opportunity to gain or expand knowledge in neuropsychology and related areas. This knowledge can be useful for forming an individual profile within a specific content area. Students learn about specific disorders, fields of application, general neuropsychological procedures, research methods, and assessment and training techniques. While these techniques are not directly related to neuropsychological psychotherapy, they can be highly relevant to science and society. Accordingly, they can serve as useful professional preparation for some students. Examplary topics include neuropsychological aspects of traffic psychology, evaluation of driving fitness, aging and dementia, sports neuropsychology, target group-oriented interface design, or brain stimulation procedures.
The module is aimed at students of the M.Sc. Psychology with a focus on Experimental Psychology and Neuroscience and the M.Sc. Applied Psychology: Diagnostics, Counselling and Training at Bielefeld University who are interested in the field of neuropsychology outside of or beyond neuropsychological psychotherapy. The module does not provide access to a license to practice psychotherapy or to a license to practice medicine.
In this module, students can select psychology courses from the assigned course pool according to their own interests. In this way, the individual profile (e.g. for their future career entry) can be sharpened.
Knowledge of biopsychology and cognitive neuroscience, knowledge of psychological research methods and statistics.
