Competencies

A Focus Academy

  • is a specially designed Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) within the framework of the European University Alliance ‘NEOLAiA’
  • is a structured, short-term, financially supported mobility abroad that is integrated into the curriculum, at least via the Individual Complementary Area (free elective area).
  • is developed and implemented by at least three higher education institutions from at least three EU member states and third countries associated with the programme.
  • is an excellent way of gaining (initial) international study experience and developing your own language skills.
  • consists of a virtual and a physical component: Students from the different universities work together the whole time. The highlight is the joint physical phase on site, which lasts at least 5 days.
  • deals in particular with transversal and interdisciplinary topics in order to be of interest to many students of different disciplines.

This programme was developed with university partners of the European University Alliance ‘NEOLAiA’ (https://neolaiacampus.eu/).

With the Focus Academy learn how to

  • select and apply appropriate statistical techniques to effectively analyse real-world datasets;
  • Proficiently use the statistical software R for data manipulation, visualization, and analysis.
  • Perform basic statistical analyses (e.g., descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, and regression) and interpret the results in the data context.
  • Communicate the findings of statistical analyses clearly and effectively through both written reports and oral presentations.
  • Critically evaluate the assumptions, limitations, and ethical considerations of statistical analyses and the conclusions drawn.
  • Collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary and intercultural teams to address statistical challenges.
  • Promote and apply principles of inclusion and diversity in statistical practice and teamwork, and foster an equitable learning environment.

Content of teaching

The statistical analysis of inclusion and diversity data can greatly assist organisations in identifying disparities, setting targets and taking meaningful action to foster a more inclusive and equitable environment. It is an ongoing process that requires commitment, transparency, and ethical considerations to drive positive change.
The Focus Academy "Data Analytics for Inclusion & Diversity" aims to provide a specific formative program for Bachelor and Master’s students focussed on the use of statistical techniques in the analysis of diversity and inclusion data.

The Focus Academy can also be recognised for the following modules in Bielefeld degree programmes:

  • Module 25-BE3_a Research Methods Module
  • Module 25-ME2 Methodologies and Methods of Empirical Research
  • Module 25-ME3 Research Project
  • Module 25-ME3-IT Research Project
  • Import from educational sciences into the didactic teacher training modules: Research-based learning

Further information can be found in the EKVV .
