Master's Seminar:
Students are able to give a specialised mathematical lecture independently. They can independently develop a complex mathematical problem in a current research context, prepare it for a presentation and present it in an understandable way. They are able to independently close any gaps in their knowledge, e.g. missing proof (steps) or missing illustrative examples.
They can take part in mathematical discussions and make their own mathematical contributions and defend them against questions about the content.
Master's Thesis (and subsequent ungraded oral examination or presentation):
Students are able to work independently on a mathematical problem according to scientific principles within a given deadline and present it appropriately in writing using professional word processing (e.g. LaTeX). They are able to present the results of their thesis in a professional manner and defend them in response to questions. They are able to critically reflect on their own work process.
In the seminar, students present a mathematical problem from current research that is related to the topic of their master's thesis. These questions will be discussed with the participants of the seminar.
The master's thesis is written under the guidance of a supervisor. Students are given the opportunity to make suggestions for topics.

Abschluss der Prüfungsleistung aus dem Modul 24-M-SPS bzw. 24-M-SPS-WIMA
In the seminar, students acquire the skills to give scientific presentations and to engage in scientific discussions in plenary sessions on current research issues. These competences are demonstrated in the ungraded examination and in the coursework.
In the Master's thesis, a major mathematical problem is developed within a research context and presented in an appropriate manner. These competences are demonstrated in the graded examination.
With the further ungraded oral examination or presentation, students demonstrate that they can represent their own work results professionally and reflect critically on the entire work process.

In an oral examination or presentation lasting 10-15 minutes, students briefly present their Master's thesis and answer questions about the development process of the thesis. This examination is conducted in accordance with the faculty standards and is sufficiently prepared with the preparation of the thesis.
This examination refers to the final thesis, which is used for grading the module. This means that if a Master's thesis is repeated, this examination must also be repeated.
Correct and comprehensible presentation of a mathematical topic including essential steps of proof in a presentation, usually 90 minutes in length including a scientific discussion.
Development of a topic for a master's thesis in connection with the seminar presentation.
The master's thesis is an independent scientific, written elaboration of approx. 60 pages (excluding title page, abstract, list of contents, list of figures, tables and references, tables, figures, appendix and declaration of independence). Students demonstrate that they are able to work independently on a scientific task from the range of topics of the respective degree programme within the specified deadline. To this end, students contact a supervisor with whom they have concluded a curriculum agreement in the context of module 24-M-SPS and discuss a possible assignment. The supervisor is responsible for issuing the final assignment. The processing time starts with this issue. At the same time, the supervisor and student must ensure immediate registration at the examination office, in particular to appoint the examiners and document the examination procedure. The processing time for the master's thesis is 6 months. The thesis must be submitted to the examination office in electronic form by the deadline. Further regulations can be found in § 15 of the examination regulations.
