On the one hand, students acquire the competence to critically evaluate intervention approaches and epidemiological studies on the above-mentioned topics. On the other hand, they deepen their ability to apply biochemical and physical diagnostic techniques for the assessment of stress and recovery reactions, taking into account the state of health and nutrition, on the basis of the knowledge acquired during their studies. In addition to the theoretical approach to preventive and rehabilitative medical issues, students also have the opportunity to expand their experimental and practical skills by working on research projects in the Department of Sports Medicine.
The design of the muscular load and the choice of nutritional composition are the two areas that people can specifically modify from childhood to old age in order to favour development and healing processes. Since time immemorial, there has been well-intentioned but rather generalised advice on physical activity. Even in ancient times, trial and error as a methodological approach led to the brusque rejection of these approaches due to unacceptable failures. It was only with scientific support that the experience gained in competitive sport in healthy people and in the rehabilitation and prevention of the diseased and regenerating organism could be made usefully available to broad sections of the population for the development of knowledge. Students who wish to work in the application fields of medicine and Sports Science acquire in-depth knowledge of selected neuro-orthopaedic clinical pictures, diagnostic procedures and movement-based interventions within the framework of selected areas of competitive sport and rehabilitation medicine.
