For information on the duration of the modul, refer to the courses of study in which the module is used.

Competencies

You will be able to explain the cognitive, physiological, and biomechanical foundations of simple and complex motor actions and classify research findings on perception, cognition, and action control. You will develop methodological skills for experimentally testing the underlying mechanisms of human movement. You will be able to handle methodological approaches in perception research and, on this basis, develop your own experimental studies and evaluate their results.

Content of teaching

You will acquire in-depth knowledge of perception, cognition, and action control based on current research contributions from psychology and movement science. You will also acquire knowledge of the cognitive, physiological, and biomechanical foundations of human everyday movements (e.g., grasping) or complex sports motor actions (e.g., basketball). To analyze the underlying mechanisms of action control, you will learn methodological approaches from perception research (e.g., priming, eye tracking) or neurophysiology (e.g., TMS, EEG) and apply them practically in the design and programming/creation of your own experiment. You will carry out the experiments you have created in small groups and evaluate the results together.

The coursework serves to practice a reflective and discursive attitude to the topics covered in the course and has a practising and deepening character with regard to the competences anchored in the module. An academic achievement is the completion of an assignment for practice purposes. Such tasks can be: the preparation of minutes of a meeting, an abstract of a short text, an essay, the preparation of a contribution to a meeting or a project presentation, the solving of application tasks, the moderation of a discussion group or similar.
