Competencies

Non-official translation of the module descriptions. Only the German version is legally binding.

Students acquire specialised knowledge that is a prerequisite for carrying out a research project as part of their master's thesis. It includes, under the guidance of the supervisor of the Master's thesis, the targeted search for and study of literature that is related to the subject of the Master's thesis. Students therefore also acquire the skills to select and evaluate current specialised literature.

Content of teaching

Specialised knowledge of state of the art science is acquired, which is necessary for working on the research projects in the master's thesis. The content will be determined in detail in consultation with the supervisor of the master's thesis. If applicable, the necessary prior knowledge can also be acquired by attending a corresponding lecture or seminar.

Seminar:
Current topics in mathematical and theoretical physics and mathematics
Mathematical modelling of physical phenomena using selected examples

If complete modules are selected, these are completed with the examinations specified there. If individual courses or guided self-study are selected, these are completed with a cross-course examination, if applicable, which is taken by the supervisor of the Master's thesis. This can be:

  • Oral examination (approx. 30 minutes)
  • Presentation (approx. 30 minutes)
  • Project with elaboration (approx. 10 pages)

The oral examination can also take the form of an electronic examination at a distance.
