Competencies

The module focuses on the following areas of competence for the area of expertise of Sports Science: You will learn basic scientific forms of thinking and working and will be able to apply these in an exemplary manner. In addition, you will acquire knowledge of teaching theory, didactics and sports sociology relevant to the area of expertise of physical education and learn to reflect on and apply this knowledge. You will be able to transfer and critically assess teaching theory and sport sociological discourses to your future professional field. Special emphasis is also placed in the module on the fact that you not only absorb scientific results on individual topics, but also learn to understand and assess the respective construction logic and relative independence of the perspective from which knowledge is gained and secured in the social sciences and humanities.
In addition, you will be able to independently plan teaching units and projects on the basis of subject didactic theories and models, taking into account diversity-sensitive and digitally supported teaching, in a criteria-led and competence-oriented manner, as well as to reflect on their implementation and anticipate possible problems that may arise.

The subject-specific competences acquired are tested in the course "Fundamentals of Sports Sociology" as an example, but explicitly refer to the competences of the other courses.
The scientific methodological and literary competences are tested in the lecture "Introduction to scientific working techniques in Sports Science for students of teacher training profiles".

Content of teaching

The lecture "Fundamentals of Sports Sociology" uses selected topics and contexts (e.g. sports participation, sports socialisation, diversity and discrimination in sports organisations, migration in sports, integration in sports organisations, sociology of elite sports) to present the subject matter, theoretical perspectives and methodological procedures of sports sociological research.

As part of the lecture "Introduction to scientific working techniques in Sports Science for students of teacher training profiles", you will be introduced to ways of thinking in Sports Science, in particular Sports Education, using the example of selected scientific models, which will enable you to formulate and work on scientific questions independently and in an interest-led manner. In addition, you will acquire knowledge of methods of scientific work - including the use of digital tools - which will enable you to write theory-based papers.

The lecture "Theory of Physical Education" gives you an insight into the theoretical foundations of the didactics and methodology of physical education. Fundamental aspects of the planning, implementation and evaluation of physical education are covered as well as the teaching of selected subject-specific elements of lesson design (e.g. in relation to co-educational physical education or movement observation and correction) and the teaching of interdisciplinary areas (e.g. for social learning, for aesthetic education).

The seminar "Planning and evaluating PE lessons" focuses on selected didactic theories and models as well as reflection on the current framework and curricula for PE in all types of schools. Various models for lesson preparation and evaluation will be discussed against the background of diversity-sensitive and digitally supported teaching, as well as characteristics of good physical education.

Some of the lectures are accompanied by tutorials or PAL programmes, in which the respective content is dealt with in more detail using selected literature and academic working techniques are tested in practice.

Explanation regarding the elements of the module

The literary and working skills required in the lecture "Scientific Working Techniques in Sports Science for Students of Teacher Training Profiles" and the content-related skills required in the other courses of the module cannot be plausibly summarised in terms of examination organisation, but should each be consolidated by an examination.

"Planning and evaluating physical education" should only be chosen in the second semester.
