Competencies

In this module, you will be able to instruct groups in standardised and non-standardised sports in leisure and health sports. To this end, you will acquire the methodological competence (competence area "Teaching") to design teaching-learning situations for sports activities with different target groups. You will acquire the skills to analyse error patterns, make movement corrections and assess performance. They will be able to critically reflect on and apply various teaching models with regard to different objectives and target groups. You will develop the professional competence "sport motor skills" by gaining new movement experiences in the various sports and deepening or expanding your movement repertoire. Furthermore, you will learn to assess movement science and training science theories and models with regard to their practical suitability.
As an example, you will take a practical sports examination in one of the selected seminars on the competence area of "sports motor skills" (practical examination). In fields of practice focussed on health sports, this examination can be on the competence area "teaching" (practical teaching examination). The theory examination for the area of competence "movement-theoretical, subject-specific knowledge" is performed as an example in a course from another area not selected for the practical sports examination. It is not possible to take a practical or theory examination in all elective courses offered in the module.

Content of teaching

In this module, you will expand your experience and knowledge in various fields of sport and exercise. As an example, you will acquire skills and abilities for self-realisation in the area (1) of exercise activities relevant to health sports (e.g. "aqua fitness", "strength training", "tai chi", "body therapy" etc.) and deepen your methodological knowledge for teaching them. In a course from the area of (2) outdoor sports (e.g. "rowing", "canoeing", "sailing", "windsurfing", "surfing", "stand-up paddling", "skiing", "snowboarding", "cycling", "mountain hiking"), the special experiential educational possibilities of these fields of exercise are also addressed as part of an excursion, which is compulsory. One course is in the field of (3) martial arts (e.g. "judo", "kickboxing", "self-defence" etc.) and a further course is preferably to be studied in a field relevant to leisure sports (e.g. "golf", "baseball", "beach volleyball", "bouldering", "ice skating", other sports games, "acrobatics" etc.). You will learn how to apply movement and training science theories to the respective fields of practice and try out coaching sports groups in the various sports and movement fields.

Necessary requirements

A medical certificate confirming that the student is able to undergo the physical demands of a sports degree programme must be submitted at the latest at the start of the 61-P-PIuB_a and 61-P-PIB modules. The certificate must not be older than three months at this time.

Explanation regarding the elements of the module

Notes on course and examination selection:
1. a practical sports examination must be completed in this module, which can be either a practical teaching examination or a practical subject examination.
2. as an example, the practical sports examination is taken in one of the selected seminars in the form of a specialised practical examination.
(3) In fields of practice focussed on health sports, the practical sports examination can be a practical teaching examination.
4. as an example, the theory examination is taken in a course not selected for the practical sports examination in another area.
5. not all compulsory elective courses offered in the module offer the opportunity to take a practical sports or theory examination

Reasons for the necessity of two module examinations:
In the seminars, didactic-methodological and movement-theoretical aspects of the respective sport and movement field are taught in an integrative manner and sport-specific performance and technique are also trained. For technical and organisational reasons, a separate examination of the individual aspects of competence acquisition (motor skills, teaching skills, subject-specific knowledge) is necessary in the sport and movement fields.

An academic achievement is a task that is performed for practice purposes. In a practical course, such tasks are the demonstration of practical sports performance and the instruction of sports groups on a smaller scale (approx. 10 to 20 minutes). In addition, the preparation of minutes of a meeting or an abstract of a short text of no more than 1200 words etc. may be required.
Practical sporting achievements include special techniques and skills as well as safety-relevant knowledge (e.g. assisting and assisting holds, setting up and securing equipment arrangements in accordance with current safety regulations, rescue techniques). These are practised in each of the sessions as part of the coursework to be completed. The skills acquired in this area are therefore assessed in each session. They cannot be learnt purely through self-study, or only with considerable restrictions. In this respect, if more than 20% of the sessions are missed, the practical sports performance, including the special techniques and skills as well as the safety-relevant knowledge, cannot be practised. Deviation from this 20% rule is only possible for important reasons and requires clarification in a personal discussion with the respective teaching staff.
