Competencies

They acquire knowledge about the structure of movement representations and the methods for researching movement memory. They will acquire methodological expertise in dealing with different experimental paradigms and approaches for evaluating and diagnosing movement knowledge in short and long-term memory. You will be able to categorise the relevance of the various approaches in the scientific discussion. Furthermore, you will improve your teamwork skills in the context of solving group tasks and train your ability to understand and present scientific contexts.

You will demonstrate the acquisition of these competences by deepening a selected topic in a seminar paper. This should be based on preliminary work carried out as part of a module element, e.g. in the form of a paper, a presentation or a preliminary experiment.

Content of teaching

You will deepen your knowledge of the fundamentals of movement and cognitive science in the organisation of complex sporting actions. The focus is on theories and empirical findings on the development of movement knowledge in long-term memory, models for the activation of movements in short-term memory, the influence of movement memory on perception processes and decision-making behaviour in sports game situations. In addition, the connection between representation and movement execution is also dealt with using the expert-novice paradigm.

In the project seminar "Cognition and Motor Control", the methodical-experimental approach to selected topics of the seminar course is deepened. You will plan a movement science experiment on mental control and movement actions in long-term memory or on the activation of movements in short-term memory. You will then test your experimental approach and carry out the study (in a small group), analyse it and classify the results within a theoretical framework. Finally, you will present the key results in the seminar and write up your methodological approach and results in a seminar paper.

Recommended previous knowledge

Knowledge of the contents of the lectures "Fundamentals of Exercise Science" of module 61-Spowi-GL1, "Fundamentals of Empirical Research Methods" of module 61-PW-WAM and "Fundamentals of Sports Psychology" of module 61-PW-GL2.

The coursework serves to practice a reflective and discursive attitude to the topics covered in the course and has a practising and deepening character with regard to the competences anchored in the module. An academic achievement is the completion of an assignment for practice purposes. Such tasks can be: the preparation of minutes of a meeting, an abstract of a short text, an essay, the preparation of a contribution to a meeting or a project presentation, the solving of application tasks, the moderation of a discussion group or similar. The following applies to all contributions: Students may be required to submit written contributions totalling a maximum of 1800 words or oral contributions totalling a maximum of 30-40 minutes.
