Depending on your own interests, you will acquire the current state of knowledge and discussion on selected problem areas and research questions in sports economics and/or sports sociology/sport management and learn to compare different theoretical approaches. In addition, you will address methodological issues in sports economics and/or sports sociology/sport management and expand your methodological knowledge in order to be able to apply it independently in the context of suitable problems. You will demonstrate the acquisition of these professional and communicative competences by demonstrating your knowledge and understanding of the issues dealt with in this module in the form of a written seminar paper or portfolio based on one or more selected topics.
With this module, you will approach the current state of knowledge and discussion in sport economics and sport sociology/sport management by taking a concentrated look at selected topics (e.g. market research in the professional field of sport, digitalisation in sport, data science in sport, strategy and marketing in sport, coaching and performance management in sport, etc.). In addition, the events offered in this module also give you the opportunity to gain an insight into the current research activities of the "Sport and Economics" and "Sport and Society" departments of Sports Science at Bielefeld University.
Sports sociology and sports economics basics, as taught in module 61-PW-GL2, are strongly recommended.
