In exchange with academic co-workers from Departments III and V, who are in various phases of academic qualification, you will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss current research projects in the "Research Colloquium". You will not only expand your knowledge of the research process as such, but also contribute your own ideas and reflections in a socially and communicatively competent manner and also derive your own problems. You will expand your methodological skills for scientific work by learning to make pragmatic research decisions and to evaluate the interplay between theory and method, also with regard to your own prospective empirical research projects.
In the "Accompanying seminar Master's thesis", you will demonstrate that you can apply the theoretical and methodological skills you have acquired in your degree programme to a sports-related question you have developed yourself, work on it independently and explain and defend your own approach.
The Master's thesis is designed as an empirical work with a reference to Sports Science, based on a topic in "Sports Sociology" or "Sports Economics". These topics can be supervised by members of staff in Departments III and V. To prepare and accompany your Master's thesis, you will attend the "accompanying seminar", in which you will present your ideas or your own work at a more advanced stage. In the "research colloquium" of Departments III and V, you will actively discuss current research in the respective department.
Prior successful completion of modules 61-OM-SpS_a, 61-OM-SpOe_a and 61-OM-Org is recommended. In the case of an empirical project, you should also aim to have previously completed modules 61-OM-MeGl_a.

The coursework serves to practice a reflective and discursive attitude to the topics covered in the course and has a practising and deepening character with regard to the competences anchored in the module. An academic achievement is the completion of an assignment for practice purposes. Such assignments can be: preparing a contribution to a meeting or a project presentation of the work planned for the Master's thesis, preparing an expert opinion on the work projects of other students presented in the seminar, preparing an exposé on the planned topic of the Master's thesis, solving application tasks or similar. The following applies to all contributions: Students may be required to submit written contributions totalling a maximum of 1800 words or oral contributions totalling a maximum of 30-40 minutes in one course. |

The Master's thesis can be written as an individual or group thesis, whereby in the latter case the authorship of individual parts must be indicated.
The Master's thesis is an independent scientific, written elaboration of approx. 30,000 words (excluding title page, abstract, list of contents, list of figures, tables and references, tables, figures, appendix and declaration of independence). Students must demonstrate that they can work independently on a scientific task from the range of topics covered by the degree programme within the specified deadline.
To this end, students contact a supervisor and discuss a possible assignment. The supervisor is responsible for issuing the final assignment. The processing time begins with this issue. At the same time, the supervisor and student must ensure immediate registration at the examination office, in particular to appoint the examiners and document the examination procedure. The Master's thesis can be written in German or English in consultation with the supervisor. The completion time is six months.
The thesis must be submitted on time, preferably in electronic form, to the Sports Science examination office.
