For information on the duration of the modul, refer to the courses of study in which the module is used.
The module provides in-depth methodological knowledge in empirical social research and enables you to understand and critically analyse more complex empirical research work. In addition, you will acquire self-competence and methodological expertise to work independently on research-relevant questions, which you can use for your Master's thesis or in your future professional field, for example.
In the course "Sports Sociological Research Methods", you will deal intensively with various forms of quantitative and qualitative research. You will deepen the specialist knowledge you acquired in your Bachelor's degree on central survey and analysis methods (questionnaire design, data preparation and analysis, expert interviews, qualitative/thematic content analysis) and learn to compare them and reflect on their use depending on the respective problem.
In the "Sports Economics Research Methods" course, you will deepen your knowledge of the methodological foundations of quantitative data analysis. In addition to data preparation, the focus is on the use of modern statistical software (e.g. R or STATA) and the associated acquisition of skills for creating and analysing data sets. In the latter, you will learn to evaluate quantitative methods against the background of the research question.
You will demonstrate the acquisition of this methodological expertise and communication skills in a written examination.
The course "Sports Sociological Research Methods" covers both quantitative and qualitative empirical research methods. The focus is on the construction of a quantitative questionnaire and the creation of guidelines for qualitative interviews. In addition, various quantitative analyses (e.g. statistical tests for correlations and differences) and qualitative content analysis are presented as evaluation methods.
As part of the "Sports Economics Research Methods" course, econometric methods are first explained using studies and weighed up in the context of economic issues. This is followed by the development of an individual research question and the subsequent preparation of a data set to answer it, including the use of web crawlers. Finally, the econometric methods and software skills are used to analyse the students' own data.
