For information on the duration of the modul, refer to the courses of study in which the module is used.
In this module, you will gain an in-depth insight into the development of sport and its organisations. You will acquire specialist skills that will enable you to understand and explain different approaches to explaining typical problems in organised sport. You will also be able to communicate the theoretical concepts you have learnt and discuss them in small groups. You will familiarise yourself intensively with selected international scientific literature and acquire the knowledge contained therein through self-study and in small groups. Working in small groups, you will also be able to deal with different opinions and arrive at a joint discussion result that you can present to the seminar audience.
In addition to the specialist knowledge acquired in the courses "Sociology of Organisations" and "Theoretical Perspectives", the oral examination as a module examination is intended to demonstrate interdisciplinary skills such as communication skills, rhetoric and the students' ability to present themselves, which are expected in later management-related activities.
By completing the course, you demonstrate that you have developed a comprehensive theoretical understanding of sports organisations and can present this in a 20-30 minute presentation on a specific topic in the seminar. In doing so, you will sharpen your oral communication skills and demonstrate that you are able to explain complex and extensive issues to others in a structured and concise manner.
This module builds on the psychological and management-related knowledge imparted in Module 61-OM-Org "Organisations" to impart sociological knowledge of sports organisations. The aim is, on the one hand, to deal with structural peculiarities of sports organisations in different sectors and various relevant concepts (including the recruitment and retention of volunteers, professionalisation, effectiveness and performance measurement of sports organisations). On the other hand, you will deal with various organisational theories that are relevant to sports organisations and that help to explain and solve problems and constellations that arise (e.g. resource dependency theory, resource-based view, theories of group processes, theories of inter-organisational relationships).
