Competencies

The module offers you the opportunity to acquire basic programming skills for a Bachelor's thesis in the Psychology and Movement profile.
As part of this module, you will learn to understand and practically apply basic concepts of programming languages and the scientific data analysis tool "Matlab".
In the seminar on the fundamentals and practice of programming languages, you will learn the elementary structures and language definitions of a programme step by step using a very easy-to-learn programming language. You will recognise similarities to other programming languages so that you can learn new programming languages independently.
With the overview of the functionality of Matlab and existing programming solutions acquired in the Matlab seminar, you will be able to use this tool for your own purposes. You will also acquire biomechanical knowledge with the support of which you can describe and explain human movements. With the basic programming skills acquired, you will be able to evaluate, animate and model simple movements.
After completing the module, you should be able to design and use programming concepts to solve the problems you encounter during your studies.

You will demonstrate the acquisition of these competences by creating a portfolio of exercises.

Content of teaching

The courses are aimed at beginners without any programming experience and try to convey joy in dealing with programming languages and Matlab with simple didactic programming tutorials on the PC. The following content is taught:

  • Understanding the basic concepts of programming and application languages
  • Learning the elementary structures and language definitions
  • Understanding the similarities between programming languages
  • Overview of the functionality of Matlab
  • Processing of kinematic and dynamic measured values with Matlab, visualisation and animation of data, automation of evaluation processes
  • Biomechanical modelling of movements
  • Important information from the Matlab statistics toolbox
