Die Studierenden kennen grundlegende Begriffe, Phänomene und Konzepte einer weiteren naturwissenschaftlichen oder technischen Disziplin. Sie sind in der Lage auch komplexe Fragestellungen dieser Disziplinen zu verstehen, einzuordnen und eigene Lösungsansätze zu entwickeln. Der Kompetenzerwerb und -nachweis erfolgt gemäß der Beschreibung der gewählten Veranstaltungen.

Es kann ein Modul im Umfang von 10 LP oder zwei Module à 5 LP aus dem Angebot der Fakultäten für Biologie, Chemie, Physik, Gesundheitswissenschaften oder aus dem Angebot der Technischen Fakultät für den Bereich Informatik gewählt werden.
Bei einer Kombination von Modulen beziehungsweise Veranstaltungen entscheidet der Prüfungsausschuss der Molekularen Biotechnologie darüber, ob diese in einem thematischen Kontext stehen. Bei einem 10 LP Modul muss es sich um ein solches mit einer benoteten Modulprüfung handeln. Werden zwei 5 LP Module gewählt, muss mindestens eines mit einer benoteten Modulprüfung abgeschlossen werden.

Die konkrete Erbingungsform hängt von dem gewählten Modul oder den gewählten Modulen ab. Werden zwei 5 LP Module gewählt, ist im Falle nur einer benoteten Modulprüfung diese zugleich die Modulnote. Wird in jedem 5 LP Modul mit einer benotete Prüfungsleistung abgeschlossen, werden diese beiden Noten bei der Ermittlung der Modulnote 1 : 1 gewichtet.
