Competencies

In this module, you will deepen your knowledge of sports economics and institutions and learn how to relate the general economic knowledge you acquired in modules M1 and M4 to your profile-specific field of application. On the other hand, you will address methodological questions of sports economics and expand your methodological knowledge in order to be able to apply it in the context of economics-oriented problems. You will demonstrate the acquisition of these competences by using a selected topic to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the issues dealt with in this module in the form of a written seminar paper.

Content of teaching

Drawing on the understanding of concepts and theory acquired in modules M1 and M4, the courses in this module are dedicated to an in-depth analysis of the economic characteristics of the sports sector and, subsequently, to the question of which institutional arrangements have developed on the basis of these characteristics. Among other things, the specifics of the labour and product markets as well as the different organisational forms of professional sport in Europe and the USA will be discussed.

Recommended previous knowledge

Successful completion of module M1 as well as the courses "Fundamentals of Sports Economics" of module W-G2 and "Introduction to Sports Management" of module W-SuEM is strongly recommended. Simultaneous attendance of the courses in module M4 is also strongly recommended.
