The supplementary module offers the opportunity to individually specialize in one or more subjects related to the core subjects of the master programme. Students will learn basic and advanced concepts and approaches of at least one other, preferably mathematical or technical discipline and are able to understand and reflect on basic or advanced questions of said discipline. Hereby, they are able to work on scientific tasks with interdisciplinary aspects. Specific competences and forms of examination are defined by the descriptions of the courses or modules used for the supplementary module.

Students may choose one or more courses or modules offered by the Faculty of Biology or from the other Natural Sciences. They may apply to use other courses or modules useful for their individual study profile and aim of the master programme if the §§ (MPO) agrees. If the application is declined, the decision is discussed by §§ (MPO) and the applicant, and the reasons for the decision are documented. The chosen courses have to comprise 10 LP in total.


Examinations

If the student chooses complete modules, these are studied according to the individual regulations of these modules. If the student performs a research project similar as a research module, she or he has to writte a research report (15-30 pages).
If the student chooses individual courses, they are documented as a portfolio. Individual exams for the chosen courses are used for the portfolio. If the chosen courses offer no form of examination, the student has to hand in a report (one to three pages) detailing how the chosen courses benefit his or her study profile or specialisation.
