Regular cycle (beginning)

Every summer semester

Credit points and duration

5 Credit points

For information on the duration of the modul, refer to the courses of study in which the module is used.

Competencies

Students acquire (additional) competencies in the computer-assisted implementation of skills acquired in the other basic modules. After completing the module, students will be able to independently process data from different study designs and different paradigms, evaluate them using both descriptive and inferential statistics, and present the results in an appropriate scientific form.

Content of teaching

The focus is on teaching computer-assisted data acquisition and the application of statistical methods using common software products, as well as on the presentation of the results.

Recommended previous knowledge

It is recommended that students attend the other basic modules beforehand and/or concurrently.

The portfolio contains the exercises of the course and a final project. The exercises are assigned during the course, usually on a weekly basis. They supplement and deepen the content of the seminar. The following requirements must be met for the portfolio:

  • Regular completion of the exercises with a recognisable problem-solving approach and presentation of a solution within the course
  • Proof of a sufficient number of correctly solved exercises (usually 50%)
  • The final project consists of the descriptive and inference statistical analysis of an exemplary data set, followed by a documentation of the results and conclusions. The final project serves as the basis for grading.

The module is used in these degree programmes:
