This module will go beyond the application of data analytics. In the lectures and in the seminar students raise their awareness about ethical, legal and social aspects and impacts of the application of data analytics. The module includes includes a presentation with written report.

Content of teaching

This is a series of lectures given by different speakers. The topics depend on the lecturers that accept our invitation.

  • Filter bubble / echo chamber effects
  • Ethical Aspects of Monitoring and Surveillance
  • Licensing
  • Inheritance of private data
  • Social profiling & predictive policing
  • What data may and may not be collected and for what purposes ? the current state of the laws in Germany and the EU.
