In the process of writing a Master's Thesis students acquire the competences necessary to investigate and discuss a topic and to document the results according to scientific standards on their own.

Content of teaching

Within this module students compile a Master's Thesis under supervision investigating a topic in the area of data science.

The Master's thesis is a written paper. The processing time is six months. The date of issue must be recorded. The thesis is usually between 40 and 80 pages in length. The topic and assignment must be such that it can be completed within the planned workload of 30 CP (900 hours). Theses must be submitted in electronic form (as a searchable PDF file, including a declaration of independent work with a scanned signature) by the deadline in an email to the examination office of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics and both reviewers (open distribution list). The submission must be made using the university account (e-mail address: @uni-bielefeld.de). The Master's thesis cannot be written as a group thesis.
All staff members with a doctoral degree of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics and Faculty of Technology as well as all staff members with a doctoral degree of the Faculties of Mathematics and Physics can be supervisors.
All staff members with a doctoral degree from other Faculties of Bielefeld University can be appointed as one of the examiners by the person responsible for module as part of the registration of the Master's thesis.
At least one examiner must come from the group of professors in the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics or Faculty of Technology. Further regulations can be found in the Master's examination regulations.
