A degree programme in the subject of French at Bielefeld provides for a broad-based examination in the fields of French literature, cultural and media studies as well as linguistics and history. By combining the various disciplines, students acquire a deeper understanding of French and francophone cultures, comprehensive language skills as well as a wide range of text analytical and media (cultural) studies competences. The aim is to enable them to independently and academically reflect on French-language texts and cultures, to give them a deeper understanding of current issues of intercultural coexistence in modern societies and to qualify them either for a teaching career or for an appointment in an international cultural environment.
