The Master's degree programme in Mathematical Economics will be offered in English from the winter semester 2025/26.
As part of a Master's degree programme, you will deepen and expand your mathematical skills, be introduced to current research questions in mathematics and learn to plan, carry out and complete a research project independently. In addition to the special skills for structuring and analysing complex issues and communicating them, a Master's degree course will not only teach you how to organise yourself, but will also provide you with special professional skills in project management.
Bielefeld University is traditionally known for interdisciplinary research and teaching, especially in the area between mathematics and economics. Long-term collaborative research projects in this area and, in particular, the Institute of Mathematical Economics (IMW) create an attractive, international research environment with particular appeal for teaching (e.g. in the form of numerous specialisation options) in the field of Mathematical Economics.
As in every business mathematics degree programme, learning and working together is very important. You work very closely together in tutorial groups and are also individually supervised by students from higher semesters, doctoral students and postdocs (tutors) in tutorials with lectures/seminars. There is plenty of room for technical discussions and questions. As a student of mathematics, you will work in a team right from the start and are encouraged to discuss your questions and solutions together and share your successes in solving problems.
You will find the programme of lectures for this course in the eKVV.
An overview of the introductory and information events is provided by the central student counselling services.
