Durch das Studium der Wirtschaftsmathematik wird besonders intensiv die Fähigkeit zur Abstraktion, logisches und analytisches ebenso wie strukturiertes und zielorientiertes Denken und das schnelle Auffassen komplexer Sachverhalte geschult sowie hohe Konzentrationsfähigkeit und Ausdauer trainiert. Zur Vorbereitung auf berufliche Tätigkeiten dient auch die in die Fachausbildung integrierte Vermittlung bzw. Stärkung von Schlüsselqualifikationen. Dazu gehört es in kleinen Gruppen gemeinsam eine Lösung eines Problems zu erarbeiten, sowie komplexe Zusammenhänge im Vortrag klar und verständlich darzustellen. Weitere (Schlüssel-) Qualifikationen sind ausreichende Kenntnisse der englischen Fachsprache, die Beherrschung von Textbearbeitungs- und Präsentationswerkzeugen und mindestens einer Programmiersprache sowie der geläufige Umgang mit Mathematikprogrammen (wie Maple oder Mathematica) und Statistischen Programmpaketen.
Das Masterstudium Wirtschaftsmathematik qualifiziert für verschiedene Berufe, in Wirtschaft und Verwaltung, die höhere Anforderungen an mathematische und wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Kompetenzen stellen, so z B. bei Versicherungen, Consultingfirmen, Softwarehäusern, Banken, Rechenzentren, statistischen Ämtern usw. Nach den Erfahrungen der letzten Jahre hat es, selbst in konjunkturell schwachen Zeiten, kaum gravierende Vermittlungsprobleme für Wirtschaftsmathematiker gegeben. Wir erwarten, dass das auch auf die Masterabsolventen zutrifft.

Studies can be commenced in both winter and summer semesters. Courses are targeted to commencing studies in winter semester. Student counselling to plan the course of studies is recommended.

Access requirements
Access to the Master programme is granted to those who can provide evidence that they have a first university degree which has a standard period of study of at least six semesters, qualifies for exercising a profession and is in accordance with the subject-specific regulations.

Degrees from accredited Bachelor programmes at German ‘Berufsakademien’ are equivalent to Bachelor degrees from universities.
Applicants with a university degree obtained abroad are granted access provided that the degree they have acquired is deemed sufficient for this purpose and they can provide evidence of the required language skills.

The study places for this degree programme are not subject to any admission restrictions (numerus clausus). Nevertheless, you need to apply within the currently applicable application deadlines.
As soon as you receive a positive response in the application and status portal (notice of access from the faculty), you can submit your application for enrolment within the set deadline. If you are already enrolled at Bielefeld University, you need to apply for a change of degree programme.
