Der Studiengang Public Health ist wissenschaftsorientiert, multidisziplinär und berufsqualifizierend ausgerichtet. In den Lehrveranstaltungen erlangen Sie fachwissenschaftliche Kenntnisse und analytisch-methodische Kompetenzen im breiten Spektrum von Public Health, wie z. B. zu gesundheitspolitischen Reformprozessen, der Gesundheits- und Pflegesystementwicklung und der Gesundheitspsychologie und -soziologie.

Der Studienverlauf gliedert sich in eine fachliche Basis, in der Sie ein grundlegendes Verständnis gesundheitswissenschaftlicher Handlungsfelder und Arbeitsweisen erlangen, gefolgt von einem Wahlpflichtbereich, in dem Sie sich in einem von zwei Profilen fachlich vertiefen.

Im Rahmen des Profils „Vertiefende interdisziplinäre Inhalte und Betrachtungsweisen von Public Health“ erhalten Sie Einblicke in die klassischen Disziplinen von Public Health. Das Profil „International Perspectives of Public Health“ gibt Ihnen die Möglichkeit, in Ihrem Studienverlauf einen internationalen Schwerpunkt zu setzen und hierdurch der wachsenden Bedeutung internationaler Aspekte und Themen in Public Health gerecht zu werden.

Tätigkeitsfelder unserer Absolvent*innen sind zum Beispiel: Forschung und Lehre an Hochschulen, Projektmitarbeit und -leitung sowie wissenschaftliche Unterstützung in der öffentlichen (Gesundheits)verwaltung (z. B. RKI), Referent*innentätigkeit bei Sozialversicherungen (Kranken-, Pflege- und Rentenkassen), Projektmitarbeit und -leitung sowie wissenschaftliche Unterstützung im betrieblichen Gesundheitsmanagement in Wirtschaftsunternehmen, Institutionen und Einrichtungen des Sozialwesens und Referent*innentätigkeit bei internationalen Organisation (z. B. NGO, WHO).

Studies can be commenced only in winter semester.

Length and scope of studies

The standard period of studies is 4 semesters.

The studies Public Health comprise 120 credit points.

Access requirements

Access to the Master programme is granted to those who can provide evidence that they have a first university degree which has a standard period of study of at least six semesters, qualifies for exercising a profession and is in accordance with the subject-specific regulations.

Degrees from accredited Bachelor programmes at German ‘Berufsakademien’ are equivalent to Bachelor degrees from universities.

Applicants with a university degree obtained abroad are granted access provided that the degree they have acquired is deemed sufficient for this purpose and they can provide evidence of the required language skills.

Application, admission and enrolment ¹

The study places for this degree programme are subject to local admission restrictions (numerus clausus). You need to apply within the currently applicable application deadlines.

As soon as you receive a positive response in the application and status portal (notice of access from the faculty) and receive your admission notice from the Student Office, you can submit your application for enrolment within the set deadline. If you are already enrolled at Bielefeld University, you need to apply for a change of degree programme. After the deadline expires, the study place will be allocated to someone else.
