Informatics for the Natural Sciences (NWI) combines informatics and natural sciences. Depending on the specialisation, it is therefore a course in bioinformatics, cheminformatics or physics informatics. A combination with a broader knowledge of the natural sciences is also possible.
The aim of the degree programme is to provide students with in-depth knowledge and skills in both computer science and at least one natural science subject such as biology, chemistry or physics. The degree programme qualifies students to understand methods in computer science and natural science in depth and to be able to combine them. The ability to work independently according to scientific principles and the ability to communicate across disciplinary boundaries are important by-products.
After completing the degree programme, graduates are in a position to work in science: in industry or in research institutions where computer science and natural sciences come together. The usual IT appointments (such as software development, data science, consulting, databases) are also open to successful graduates with the skills and experience they have acquired.
You will find the programme of lectures for this course in the eKVV.
