Viele aktuelle Fragen der Biologie und Medizin lassen sich beantworten, wenn die zugrunde liegenden molekularen Vorgänge in den Zellen geklärt sind. Hierbei stehen insbesondere die Regulation von Genen, die Struktur und Funktionen von Proteinen und Metaboliten sowie deren funktionelle Wechselwirkung in und zwischen den Zellen, sowie deren pathologische Störungen im Vordergrund des Studiengangs.
Bereits Bakterien zeigen vielfältige Anpassungen an abiotische und biotische Umweltfaktoren und ein breites Repertoire an Stoffwechselleistungen. Eukaryoten weisen darüber hinaus bemerkenswerte Zellspezialisierungen auf. So differenzieren Tiere ca. 200 und Pflanzen 70 verschiedene Zelltypen, die jeweils Entwicklungsprogramme durchlaufen und in spezifischer Weise anpassungsfähig sind. Für das Begreifen von Entwicklungsvorgängen, Krankheit, Resistenz und Umweltanpassung, für das Ausarbeiten von Therapien und biotechnologischen Prozessen oder die Erzeugung ertragsstarker Sorten müssen die molekularen Ansätze auf dem Niveau der Gene, Proteine und Metabolite mit zellbiologischen und physiologischen Ansätzen verbunden werden.
Dieser Masterstudiengang vermittelt eine selektive und integrative Vertiefung der genetischen, biochemischen, molekularbiologischen, physiologischen und zellbiologischen Konzepte und Methoden.

Access to the Master programme is granted to those who can provide evidence that they have a first university degree which has a standard period of study of at least six semesters, qualifies for exercising a profession and is in accordance with the subject-specific regulations.

Degrees from accredited Bachelor programmes at German ‘Berufsakademien’ are equivalent to Bachelor degrees from universities.
Applicants with a university degree obtained abroad are granted access provided that the degree they have acquired is deemed sufficient for this purpose and they can provide evidence of the required language skills.

Application, admission and enrolment
The study places for this degree programme are subject to local admission restrictions (numerus clausus). You need to apply within the currently applicable application deadlines.
As soon as you receive a positive response in the application and status portal (notice of access from the faculty) and receive your admission notice from the Student Office, you can submit your application for enrolment within the set deadline. If you are already enrolled at Bielefeld University, you need to apply for a change of degree programme. After the deadline expires, the study place will be allocated to someone else.
