Practical Training
The Applied Psychology degree programme combines the applied psychological disciplines of Educational Psychology and Industrial and Organisational Psychology. This innovative approach provides a comprehensive education that prepares students for a variety of practical fields of application.

Practical project work
Students acquire key skills through the independent planning and implementation of practice-oriented project modules. This practical experience enhances their ability to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts and fosters professional competence.

Specialisation options
The degree programme offers a choice of two project modules from three specialisation options: Educational Psychology; Work, Organisational and Social Psychology; and Training and Continuing Professional Development. This flexibility allows students to set their own priorities and promotes the targeted development of specific career-related skills.

Evidence-based practice
The programme places great emphasis on evidence-based psychological practice. Students learn to translate scientific findings into practice in order to strengthen their ability to make well-founded decisions in professional contexts.

Career orientation
The degree programme imparts knowledge that is applicable across various professional fields, such as school psychology, educational or counselling centres, as well as in businesses and organisations within a business context – including staff recruitment and development, and areas of forward-looking workplace and organisational design. This focus on professional fields promotes employability.
The degree programme opens up a wide range of career prospects in various fields of work, for example:

School psychology: Graduates can work in school psychology, where they provide psychological support and counselling to pupils, teachers and parents. This also includes assessment and individual support.

Counselling services:
The degree programme qualifies graduates for roles in various counselling centres, where the focus is on psychological assessment and counselling for different target groups. Here, professionals can apply their expertise to improve individuals’ life circumstances.

Human resources: A career in recruitment and staff development within organisations is also possible, for example in aptitude assessment and the design of training programmes. Graduates use their knowledge to optimise recruitment processes and staff training.

Work and Organisational Design:
Graduates can work in the field of organisational development, applying the skills they have acquired to the future-oriented design of work and organisations. The knowledge gained is used, for example, in organisational diagnosis, the planning and implementation of training and further education measures, and process evaluation.

Higher Education Pedagogy:
The skills acquired also enable graduates to pursue a career in higher education pedagogy. Here, graduates can design courses and further develop teaching at colleges and universities to ensure the quality of study programmes.

Academic Research:
For students aspiring to a research career, the master course also lays the foundation for further qualification and a career path leading to a PhD. The Faculty of Psychology and Sports Science promotes further academic qualification and offers suitable candidates the ideal conditions to pursue their own research interests.
