At Bielefeld University, Education as a School Subject combines academic research with practice-orientated teacher training and is part of the Faculty of Educational Science. Anyone who is interested in pedagogy and would like to teach it as a subject in Advanced Secondary and Comprehensive Schools will find a diverse range of courses offered here with a long tradition of research and a clear career orientation.
Studying the subject of Education as a School Subject provides theoretical foundations in educational, socialisation and social theories as well as methodological and didactic skills. Students develop a sound understanding of pedagogical action and learn to critically reflect on and professionally organise educational processes. Subject-specific and didactic components are intertwined and are tested in schools during the Teaching Experience Semester (‘Praxissemester’).
The main career goal is to become a school teacher of Education. In addition, the degree programme also qualifies students for other educational fields of activity.
