Interdisciplinary Education
The Bachelor's program in Biochemistry combines knowledge from chemistry, biology, and physics. This interdisciplinary approach enables students to understand complex biochemical processes and apply them in various scientific contexts.

Practical Laboratory Experience
An essential component of the program is the integrated laboratory courses, in which students develop experimental skills. This practical experience is crucial for future professional careers and fosters the development of key competencies.

Research and Innovation
The Department of Chemistry at Bielefeld University is distinguished by its excellent research work. Students benefit from the opportunity to participate in current research projects, thereby gaining direct insight into innovative biochemical issues.

Diverse Career Prospects
The program opens up numerous career paths in the biotechnology, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries. The broad scientific education also qualifies graduates for careers in science management or the patent field.
The program opens up a wide range of career opportunities in various fields, such as:

Industrial Research: Graduates find employment in biochemical research at companies in the biotechnology and chemical industries. Here, they are involved in the development of new products and processes.

Pharmaceutical Industry: Career opportunities also exist in the pharmaceutical industry, where biochemists contribute to the development and testing of medications. These positions often require a deep understanding of biochemical processes.

Science Management: In fields such as science management, graduates can apply their knowledge to the organization and coordination of scientific projects. This can take place in both industry and the public sector.

Patent Law: A broad education in the natural sciences qualifies graduates for careers in patent law. Here, they can work as patent attorneys or examiners to evaluate and protect biochemical inventions.

Academic Career: The bachelor’s degree is the first step toward an academic career. Many graduates continue their education with a master’s program and pursue a Ph.D. in biochemistry to pursue a career in research.

Access to the Bachelor programme is granted to those who have a university entrance qualification suitable for Germany (e. g. German ‘Abitur’).

Special conditions apply to applicants with a foreign certificate of education.

Likewise, special conditions apply to those qualified in vocational education and training.
