Doctoral Researcher
Jakob Krusche has been a PhD candidate in the History Department of Bielefeld University and a member of the Bielefeld Graduate School in History and Sociology since October 2022. He is also a research assistant at the Center for InterAmerican Studies since February 2025. Previously, he completed his master’s degree in interdisciplinary Latin American Studies (with emphasis in social sciences) at Freie Universität Berlin (2015) and worked as a research assistant at the Ibero-American Institute Berlin and the German Institute for Human Rights. Research and studies have taken him to Mexico, Costa Rica and Colombia.
In his doctoral project Jakob Krusche examines legitimization practices of local violent actors in rural Mexico from a historical-sociological perspective. He is furthermore interested in the reciprocity of societal transformation and informal economies in rural Mexico after the decline of the Mexican Miracle, as well as in societal motives and modes of persistence in places where changing coercive entities are prevalent.
