Die Vorlesung vermittelt Grundlagen der Genetik und Genomorganisation der Eukaryoten. Unterschiedliche Methoden (Gentransfer, Gen-Tagging, Mausmodelle) und Ziele der Genomforschung (marker assisted breeding, phylogenomics, gene therapy) werden vorgestellt. Historische Entwicklung, aktueller Stand und Perspektiven tierischer und pflanzlicher Genomprojekte (Mensch, Arabidopsis) werden behandelt und Chancen und Risiken möglicher Anwendungen diskutiert.
