This course will focus on the different domains that learning and teaching a foreign language involve. We will first concentrate on general approaches to teaching English as well as on current research results in applied linguistics concerning the learning of vocabulary and grammar. We will then consider how this information helps us to develop a principled teaching practice when it comes to teaching the language system.
In the following, we will see how the skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) can be developed in the foreign language classroom. Special emphasis will be placed on the design of successful tasks and activities and the evaluation of current coursebook and additional material.
Participants are invited to give a presentation on one domain and are expected to develop activities for the different domains. Also, they will need a HRZ user name to access StudIP. The relevant material and texts will be made available there.
