Das Seminar beschäftigt sich mit der Organisation des Gedächtnisses und legt hier einen besonderen Schwerpunkt auf das semantische Gedächtnis und dessen Strukturierung und Erwerb. Vorgestellt werden zentrale kognitive Prozzesse (wie Aufmerksamkeit) und grundlegende Befunde zur Struktur des semantischen Gedächtnis. Darüber hinaus werden bewusst hier Querverbindungen aufgezeigt und es wird verdeutlicht, wie kognitive Prozesse und Gedächtnis interagieren und sich wechselseitig beeinflussen oder gar steuern können.
Das Hauptaugenmerk des Seminars zielt dabei auf höhere kognitive Repräsentationen, die verankert sind in darunterliegenden z.B. sensomotorischen Repräsentationen, und Sprache. Eingeführt werden hier Ansätze zum Erwerb von Sprache und wie diese eingebettet sein könnten in ein bereits bestehendes (oder sich entwickelndes) konzeptuelles System.
