Nach einer Einführung in die Jugendsoziologie durch den Veranstalter sollen zunächst theoretische Ansätze zur Jugendsoziologie sowie die geschichtliche Entwicklung der Jugend als soziales Phänomen behandelt werden. Anschließend sind neuere empirische Untersuchungen zu aktuellen Fragen der Jugendsoziologie vorzustellen und zu diskutieren. Ziel der Übung ist es, auf der Basis eines theoretischen Bezugsrahmens und der Kenntnis der historischen Entwicklung einen Überblick über den aktuellen Stand der Jugendforschung in der Bundesrepublik zu erhalten.
Von allen Teilnehmern der Veranstaltung wird erwartet, dass sie die jeweils zu den einzelnen Terminen vorgesehenen grundlegenden Texte, die ins Stud.IP gestellt werden, lesen und sich an ihrer Diskussion beteiligen. Voraussetzung für den Erwerb eines Scheines ist ein schriftliches Referat zu einem der Themengebiete, dessen wichtigste Ergebnisse in mündlicher Form zur Strukturierung der Diskussion für die jeweiligen Termine vorzutragen sind.
