404001 EMPH: Public Health in Europe (BS) (SoSe 2006)

Inhalt, Kommentar

At the Bielefeld School of Public Health, special EMPH courses are planned for every semester. The block seminars and other special short courses focus on relevant Public Health problems in a European context. For example, the sessions include issues like "Differences in Morbidity and Mortality across Europe", "Migration and Health", "Monitoring HIV in Europe", "European Institutions and Agencies", "Burden of Disease" or "Public Health Framework in Europe".

A thesis acceptable for recognition in the EMPH programme has cover on a public health problem of global or European relevance. It should be based on empirical field work concerning at least two countries of different cultural background and language (e.g. Germany and France) or deal with international organisations and their programmes (e.g. EU, WB and/or WHO).

A successful participant will have learnt - under supervision - to:
1. Analyse a public health problem of European or global relevance
2. Develop a scientific hypothesis and an appropriate study design
3. Manage fieldwork in a culturally different country
4. Write a full report according to scientific standards, and argue her / his findings and conclusions publicly in a scientific discourse
