239655 Humanistische Bildungsideale: Die Person des Atticus in der römischen Literatur (S) (SoSe 2014)

Obwohl jenseits des Rampenlichts der Politik, gehörte Atticus zu den einflussreicheren Gestalten der späten römischen Republik. Nur Zufällen ist es zu verdanken, dass wir uns ein recht genaues Bild von jenem stadtrömischen Ritter machen können, während uns sonst in der römischen Literatur fast ausschließlich Lebensbilder von Angehörgen der Senatsaristokratie überliefert sind. Neben seiner Berater- und Geldgebertätigkeit genoss Atticus innerhalb der Führungselite Rom aufgrund seiner umfassenden (griechischen) Bildung ein hohes Ansehen.
Im Rahmen des Seminars werden wir Auszüge aus der Atticus-Vita des Cornelius-Nepos lesen, zudem eine kleine Auswahl aus Ciceros Atticus-Briefen sowie Auszüge aus den Philosophica Ciceros, in denen Atticus als Dialogpartner auftritt.
Der Fokus darauf liegen, welche Werte und Rollenmuster Atticus in den gelesenen Texten verkörpert und inwiefern darin bereits Elemente eines Rollenbilds antizipiert werden, das für die Senatsaristokratie der frühen Kaiserzeit bedeutsam sein wird.
